Strange, I live in town of 15,000 and the Standard battery folks had one in stock when I needed one. Infact they have had a battery on the shelf (dry) for each of the 3 bikes I needed one for, '71 Honda CT-70, '87 TLR-200, and the Savage. Not popular bikes by any stretch. He also has had batteries for ATV's when I've needed those. all less than $45.00 w 7.8% tax and dry charged so they are new when sold, not sitting around aging. Seems like there was nothing special about the 96 Savage battery. Maybe the application guide was mistaken. NAPA shows the battery in their book, but it was in the $70.00 range and had to me ordered. Actually a 2 minute crank is pretty good, actually very good. Maybe the battery is better than you think. Max
